To be honest, there is really no safe place in America. But I walk on faith and practice safety techniques. Most of our state parks have security 24/7. But even with security, noone knows if mental illness or drug addicts surrounds you. As a rule of thumb, I set up camp before nightfall. Because it's easier. But we all need to be prepared for the unexpected and practice safety, even driving around in our cars.
