How I Entertain Myself While Camping and You Can Too
Camping brings us closer to nature and improves our health.
It takes effort to pack up and go camping. But it’s well worth it, if you can reap the health benefits of enjoying yourself.
The modern day lifestyle pushes us to always be in a hurry and rush through life, which is so harmful to your body. And the older we get, the faster time seems to travel.
Here is a list of 5 reasons to camp.
To be able to slow the pace of time
Meet new people
Breathe fresh air
Relax and enjoy the simple things of life
For entertainment
I usually camp in Texas State Parks. After I put things up and connect to power, I usually sit in my lawn chair and listen to music and maybe eat a snack. Just relax.
Then I may watch a you-tube video about other people living in vans, campers, cars, trucks and cargo trailers. I’m feeling uneasy about the number of older American women who have to live in their car, because they can’t afford to pay the rent.
Here is a video of a Massachusetts woman who was evicted from her apartment. I felt she was very brave to share her experience to the world, but I guess it paid off for her. She eventually was able to find an affordable apartment to rent.
I read about a lot of women living in cars and struggling day by day. And I wonder what they do with the time they’re given.
Will some of them write poetry? Or read a book? Or occupy themselves on social media to burn up the lonely hours.
As for me, I read books on improving my writing skills. And I like watching documentaries and you tube videos.
I also entertain myself with outdoor cooking, meeting other campers, and taking care of my dogs.
While camping, I find it to be a good place to write more pages on my novel as I’m learning how to outline, create structure, find my voice, and improve on finding sensory words to use in my prose.
Audible!
Audible is a subscription- based recorded books service. It’s nice to listen to the audio books while resting in bed or when my eyes hurt. I subscribe to audible books that I read on Kindle. In this way, I can read and listen to the same book, depending on my needs.
Since I have the “dry eye” problem, I have to stop reading or working on a computer to give my eyes some relief. Then I always go to Audible.
Writing on my Novel
It’s been a desire of mine for a long time to write a book. I hear people joke about writing a book on their life. And I wondered “who would your audience be?” Maybe you’ve had an interesting life, but other than your family and friends, who would want to read your bio?
I’ve heard from so many authors say that “writing is hard work”. It’s not an art that we’re born with, it’s a craft that has to be learned in order to be successful at writing.
Most authors will tell you that to be successful at writing, you need to be consistent and write every day and make a habit of it. I think that must be the hardest part. Write to learn how to write, is good advice.
You shouldn’t wait for inspiration to strike, just write and move into the flow of your thoughts.
Since I didn’t know really how to begin writing a novel, I purchased the book written by Mike Wood, “How to Write an Awesome Novel”.
I suggest to read this book along with other books that go more into detail regarding plots, scenes, outlines, chapter organization, creating prose, publishing and more.
There is a lot to learn before creating your first draft.
Luckily, there are plenty of tools to help us write interesting and easy to read novels.
I will write a review on some of the tools I’ve discovered lately and suggest you check them out if you want to write a book.
Please let me know in the comments, if you know of any tools that you may use to make your writing go smoothly.
Kindly,
Carol
